Sefaria, a non-profit organization dedicated to building the future of Torah in an open and participatory way, seeks a full-time Marketing Content Strategist and Writer to design engaging and creative written materials for digital marketing products.
Position Overview
The Marketing Content Strategist and Writer is a new position designed to further engage Sefaria users and attract new users as outlined in our multi-year marketing plan. In collaboration with the Director of Marketing and Communications and Sefaria staff in the Learning and Development departments, the Content Strategist and Writer will develop engagement campaigns in line with Sefaria’s strategic initiatives and new product launches.

Sefaria is looking for someone with the ability to develop creative ideas that work for Sefaria’s various audiences; translate these ideas across email and social platforms; and stay up to date on the latest trends and best practices. The Content Strategist and Writer will develop content that appeals to a wide audience and is not too academic, but sometimes explanatory in nature. They will also be responsible for conceptualizing graphics and videos to go along with the campaigns and directing Sefaria’s contract graphic designers and video editors.

On a monthly basis, the Content Strategist and Writer should expect to write copy for 20+ social media posts, 10-20 emails, 5+ blog posts, and 3-5 site banners and modals. Other projects will include concepting and writing content for informational landing pages on a variety of Jewish topics, automated email series addressing topical themes, informational videos, advertisements, and more.

The ideal candidate is a quick and confident writer with prior experience in marketing and is familiar with Jewish texts The Content Strategist and Writer will report directly to the Director of Marketing and Communications and manage the Marketing Project Coordinator.

In this position you will:
Create and execute a comprehensive digital engagement strategy and be the lead writer for email, social media, videos, advertisements, blog posts, press releases, landing pages, and in-product messaging.
Work with the Learning Department to present information about Jewish texts and topics using simple language and easily accessible concepts when necessary.
Work with the Product Department to communicate new features and product updates to users of the Web and app.
Ensure that the copy conforms to Sefaria's guidelines for product voice and content standards, and maintain and update the Sefaria style guide as necessary.
Copyedit all public-facing content, including content developed by other teams to ensure a consistent brand voice across the organization.
Conceptualize visual content and communicate it to the graphic and video teams.
Collaborate with the Associate Digital Marketing Manager on SEO content opportunities and placement of ads.
Respond to last-minute internal requests to take advantage of emerging opportunities or situations.
Analyze, review and report on effectiveness of work in an effort to maximize results.

Experience, qualifications, and requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, creative writing, marketing, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience
5+ years of experience in copywriting and editing
Substantial knowledge about Jewish texts and Jewish culture
Experience writing for broad, general audiences
Experience writing press releases and pitching stories to the media
Knowledge of best practices in writing for SEO
Knowledge of best practices for designing and writing content for landing pages
Strong project management skills with the ability to track multiple projects and meet tight and ongoing deadlines
Comfort working in a fast-paced and often-changing environment
Experience with Figma and Adobe to put together mock ups (preferred)
People management experience (preferred)
Some knowledge of Hebrew (preferred)

Compensation and Benefits:
The annual salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000

Location:
The Content Strategist and Writer can be based anywhere in the US. Sefaria has staff in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Providence, Chicago, Denver and St. Louis. For this particular position we will not be accepting applications from Israel.
